Formerly a British dependent territory, Hong Kong became a Special Administrative Region when its sovereignty was transferred to the People's Republic of China in 1997. Today, Hong Kong is a global metropolis and an international financial centre. Mostly renowned for its expansive skyline, Hong Kong is the world's most vertical city.
