Pterois is a genus of venomous marine fish found mostly in the Indo-Pacific, known collectively as the lionfish. Spotfin lionfishes are found in the tropical Indian Ocean and Western Pacific, they grow to a maximum of 20 cm and pack a venomous sting. They inhabit lagoons and reefs, where they hide during the day and hunt shrimp and crab at night.
